Northern Territory freed from lockdown but restrictions remain

The entire Northern Territory has been freed from lockdown after Katherine's stay-at-home orders lifted at midday (ACST).

However, restrictions remain in place across the territory, including mask-wearing and a limit on at-home visitors.

Katherine's lockdown was lifted at 12pm today after the NT recorded no new cases of COVID-19 from 2338 tests yesterday.

The move came after Darwin, 300km further north, was released from lockdown at 12pm yesterday.

Katherine was kept under stay-at-home orders for an extra 24 hours.

Travel is now allowed across the territory but restrictions still apply:

• Face masks must be worn where people are unable to distance from one another, including at supermarkets, shops, hairdressers and on public transport.
• The Territory Check-In App is mandatory at all locations
• Private gatherings in homes are limited to up to 10 people
• Restaurants, cafes and pubs can offer seated service only. Masks must be worn at the bar. Dance floors remain closed
• Indoor exercise facilities such as gyms remain closed
• Children in middle and senior school will be required to wear masks. Mask-wearing will be encouraged among primary school students

The lockdowns, which began on Monday, were sparked by a man who tested positive after leaving quarantine, but no more cases were found.

Between 16 and 18 August, more than 7800 COVID-19 vaccines were administered across the territory.

The territory recorded its biggest day for the vaccine roll-out so far on Wednesday, when 3196 people were vaccinated.
