Coronavirus: Northern Territory records first locally transmitted COVID-19 case taking Top End total to 26

The Northern Territory has recorded its first locally acquired case of coronavirus, amidst four new positive COVID-19 results.

A woman in her 20's, who is a close family contact of another Territorian who tested positive, has been diagnosed with the virus.

"My understanding is that they're family members, and they were living in the same house," Health Minister Natasha Fyles said.

"We had a person who had come back from overseas and been in quarantine, and the other person who has been diagnosed was also in self quarantine."

"The risk is very, very low because they've been doing the right thing," she said.

Up until now, all of the Northern Territory's COVID-19 cases had been from people returning from overseas.

Health authorities say there is still no known community transmission within the NT.

"Community transmission is when a locally acquired case cannot be traced back to a close contact or case," the Director of the Centre for Disease Control Vicki Krause said.

"In this instance, this was a family member that was classified as a close contact."

The Health Minister said the three other cases had all been in self quarantine in Darwin as well. 

A man aged in 40's has tested positive, after becoming unwell following a trip from Africa.

Another, aged in his 50's, was diagnosed after returning from the United Kingdom.

And a woman, also aged in her 50's has tested positive after travelling back from South America.

The four people bring the Northern Territory's total number of cases to 26.
