Man pleads guilty to assaulting staff at Newcastle chemist at vaccine appointment
A man has admitted to an unprovoked attack on staff at a Newcastle pharmacy while he was trying to get a coronavirus vaccine.
Craig Thompson went to the Pharmacy 4 Less in Jesmond last Friday to get his COVID-19 jab, but instead he ended up hurling abuse and assaulting staff in a violent outburst.
Security vision shows Thompson yelling in the face of a young worker. He then picked up a plastic bag which contained a number of glass bottles and began swinging it around.

One staff member tried to push him out, but he pushed back. Eventually he was forced out and the doors were locked.
"It's just something that shouldn't be happening, we shouldn't be here to serve customers and put up with that sort of behaviour," manager Cheryl Blyth said.

The 54-year-old pleaded guilty in Newcastle Local Court today. The magistrate described the incident as "extremely serious", noting how Thomson was "undeterred" by people in the store, as his violent outburst escalated.
Thompson's solicitor applied for bail, but it was refused.
The case will return to court in October.
