Coronavirus: Myer rehire 2000 staff amid spike in online sales
Department store Myer has rehired 2,000 staff members to help meet online shopping demands.
At the end of March, the retail giant stood down 10,000 employees and closed all stores for an initial period of four weeks.
Over the Easter long weekend, sales spiked and online sales increased by 800 per cent.
"There's no doubt our customers are seeking greater value during this period, and at Myer we are focussed on delivering that for them," Myer's Chief Customer Officer, Geoff Ikin said.
"Furthermore, with our continued focus on online, it has allowed us to bring back more than 2,000 team members into work to assist with our online fulfilment during this very busy time.
Myer has reduced its free delivery threshold to $49 and relaxed the returns policy.
"Customer service and satisfaction is paramount to us, and our teams are working hard to ensure everyone receives their purchases as quickly as possible - we've also reduced our free delivery threshold to $49 and have relaxed our returns policy to give customers peace of mind with any purchase they make over this coming period," Mr Ikin said.
