Coronavirus: McDonald's brings supermarket essentials to its drive-through

Fast food giant McDonald's is offering grocery essentials via its drive-through to ease the supermarket rush for customers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Supermarket staples including milk, bread rolls and English muffins are now available at the fast food chain's drive-throughs across the country.

The transactions are contactless, with the items to be paid for via tap-and-go technology.

Two litres of full cream or skim milk costs $3.50, bread rolls $3, and English muffins are $2.20.

Australian Retailers Association executive director Russell Zimmerman applauded the initiative.

"Essentially what we're seeing is McDonald's being innovative and having a new idea of being able to offer other products than what they would normally have in their business," he said.

Last week, McDonald's put an end to customers dining-in after non-essential indoor gatherings were banned by the government.

But takeaway, home delivery and drive-through still remain available to customers.
