NRL star Josh Dugan charged with breaching COVID-19 rules

Cronulla Sharks star Josh Dugan has been charged after allegedly being stopped by police more than 100 kilometres from his home during Sydney's lockdown.

Dugan, 31, and his 30-year-old passenger were pulled over in a Jeep Cherokee in Lithgow, west of the Blue Mountains, about 11.30pm on Friday.

It's alleged the pair told police they were moving to the area and were going to feed animals, however they later admitted they were heading to a friend's house for the weekend.

The men were directed to return home, NSW Police said.

About 40 minutes later, officers found the same vehicle travelling away from Sydney towards Yetholme.

The men were stopped again and told to return to their homes.

Last night officers from Sutherland Police Area Command attended a house in Gymea Bay and issued two future court attendance notices.

They are due to appear before Lithgow Local Court on October 7.

Under current restrictions in Greater Sydney, people are not permitted to travel more than five kilometres from their homes - apart from some exemptions.

The NRL also has its own strict biosecurity laws in place in Sydney.

These instruct players to stay at home unless training, playing or "completing an essential household task".
