'You'd think I was making it up': How one day of coronavirus events changed Australian's lives

Coronavirus has spread so rampantly that our lives have changed forever.

The scope of the pandemic was crystallised in a flurry of remarkable news stories that all happened today.

About 88,000 Australians lost their jobs, the NRL is suspending the 2020 season, Queensland closed its borders to other states, Australian athletes will not go to the Toyko Olympics (and the whole event's future is in doubt), 3000 Australians are stranded on cruise ships around the world and we can't got to the pub for a drink.

9News reporter Peter Overton summed up the stark reality of the unprecedented events that quickly unfolded during the 6pm news tonight.

"If I told you six weeks ago this would happen you'd think I was making it up," he said.

"Well all of these things have happened in one day. Today."
