Mum, child diagnosed with coronavirus in South Australia

A 40-year-old woman and her child have tested positive to the coronavirus in South Australia after travelling home from Iran.

The woman is currently undergoing interviews at home to determine who she might have been in contact with before her diagnosis.

Associate Professor Nicola Spurrier from SA Health said the test had delivered "quite a clear, positive result".

"I can say she is in a stable condition, she is at home, and preliminary interviews are being conducted," Prof. Spurrier said.

The woman landed back in South Australia on a Malaysia Airlines flight MH139 from Kuala Lumpur on March 1, and is understood to reside in the metropolitan Adelaide area.

South Australian authorities have contacted the Commonwealth to obtain the manifest for the flight, and will contact other people on the plane once their identities are determined.

Prof. Spurrier said it was believed the woman was an Australian citizen or permanent resident, due to the travel bans on Iran also being implemented on March 1.
