Stranded Aussie cruise ship performer pleads for homeward flight

A cruise ship performer stranded in the US has urged the Australian government to get her back home.

Michaela Pace, 22, has had three international flights cancelled in as many weeks, and is now stuck in a Miami hotel room.

The talented dancer told 9News she was meant to fly out today but the trip was grounded without warning.

"It's pretty upsetting. I had a bit of a cry when something like this happens over and over again," Michaela said.

"We keep pushing and pushing and I feel like the Australian government aren't really listening."

It was the first time the Melbourne woman, who recently moved from Mount Gambier in South Australia to pursue her dream career, had been overseas.

Michaela had already spent two weeks locked down in her cabin – a precaution in response to the global pandemic – on board the Brilliance Of The Seas cruise ship, when US authorities told her she would have to remain in Miami after disembarking.

"Being tucked away in a little cabin that's only really a shoebox can get a little bit daunting," she said.

Her family is now desperate for a breakthrough.

"It would be greatly appreciated if the government could look at this and organise a charter flight," her older sister Claudia said.

"We might not be able to give each other a hug, but I would definitely love to have a sit down with her, a coffee, a chat."

Michaela's father, Remi, added: "That's the most important thing, I think. She misses family."

Despite her ordeal, Michaela is adamant she will board another cruise ship for work when it's safe to do so – after she eventually arrives home.

"When all of this has died down and everything's finished, I'm hoping to do another contract," she said.
