Cormann denies Queensland LNP split

Cabinet minister Mathias Cormann denies Queensland Liberal-National MPs and senators will split from the rest of the federal coalition.

A move to assess a separate party room in Canberra was narrowly defeated by the LNP state executive.

"There is no split," Senator Cormann told Sky News on Friday.

The LNP was already a division of the Liberal Party and associated with the Nationals, he said.

"Individual members of the LNP choose whether to sit in the Liberal party room or the Nationals party room," he said.

"We have a strong and united team. We've got high quality ministers representing the Liberal and National parties out of the great state of Queensland and we're just getting on with the job."

Senator Cormann conceded there were discussions about organisational matters from time to time.

Senior Queensland frontbencher George Brandis said the state's representation in cabinet was at a historic high, especially given the promotion of Nationals senator Matt Canavan in Monday's reshuffle.

But the attorney-general said people would always wish their state had even more representatives.

"That's part of the day-to-day in politics," he told ABC radio.

"I wouldn't over-interpret the disappointment of some that Queensland doesn't have even more representatives in federal cabinet."
