Second man charged with murder over Brisbane shooting

A second man has been charged with murder after a 38-year-old was shot dead in a Brisbane front yard last week.

A 26-year-old Mackenzie man has today been charged with murder, after having been taken into custody on Thursday, while a 30-year-old East Brisbane man was also charged with murder on Saturday.

Timothy Van Vo was shot in the chest at close range in the front yard of a home on Cliveden Avenue in Corinda about 3.25am on October 4.

Police believe an argument occurred between Van Vo and a group of people before he was shot.

Detective Inspector Andrew Massingham has said it was believed up to four males and one female attended the address and allegedly started assaulting a man who lives there.

"At that time, the male deceased was seated in his vehicle directly opposite the address. Upon seeing it occur, the deceased left his vehicle and confronted the persons in the front yard," Massingham said.

Massingham said the group was armed with at least two guns, including a shotgun and potentially a handgun.

"The male deceased was struck at very close range, and we believe the weapon involved was a 12-gauge shotgun," Massingham said.

Massingham revealed the resident inside the home who was allegedly assaulted, the deceased man and the offenders have "been involved in a dispute".

"It has been occurring for some time," he said.

The 26-year-old man has also been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
