Conor McGregor bailed on assault charges

UFC star Conor McGregor has been released on $65,000 bail after appearing in a New York court charged with assault.

McGregor has been charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief following a fracas after a press event at Brooklyn's Barclay Center on Thursday evening. He received bail until June 14. 

The Irishman turned himself in to police late on Thursday, after the alleged incident.

As the UFC held a media day on Thursday ahead of Saturday's fight card at Barclays Centre on Saturday, McGregor and his entourage entered through a side entrance and appeared to attack a van containing other fighters.

Video footage of the fracas shows objects being thrown at the van, and a number of people were injured by glass fragments as windows were smashed.

McGregor, who became the first fighter to hold two world titles simultaneously when he beat Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt in Manhattan in 2016, has not fought in a UFC bout since the win over Alvarez in November 2016.

He previously told Reuters he made an eye-watering $196 million from last August's boxing match with Floyd Mayweather but has not fought in the Octagon since the win over Alvarez.

UFC president Dana White has said the van attack was "the most disgusting thing that ever happened in the history" of the UFC.
