Mauritian Commonwealth Games official charged with sexual assault

A Mauritian official has been charged with sexually assaulting a female athlete.

Police will allege a 52-year-old Mauritian man assaulted a 26-year-old woman in Southport on March 29.

It’s believed the alleged assault occurred just days after the team moved into the athlete’s village.

Neither the athlete or the official can be identified for legal reasons.

The official is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on April 17.
