Commonwealth Bank apologises for nationwide glitch
Commonwealth Bank has resolved a widespread outage which affected their website and smartphone app for more than 24 hours.
Customers reported problems with the bank’s online systems from 8am yesterday, with many unable to view their credit card, home loan and travel card balances; payments and transfers were also impacted.
CommBank merchant terminals didn’t escape the outage either, leaving both shoppers and businesses reaching for cash instead of card.
Today the bank announced the issue had been resolved.
“We apologise to all customers who were affected by this issue and we thank you for your patience,” the statement read.
Despite the fix, some customers expressed frustration at the bank’s silence on social media during the outage.
The bank acknowledged the issue was ongoing at 7.40pm, but then offered no further official update until 9.44am today.
“Why are their no updates on your website,” one Twitter user wrote.
Another frustrated customer said, “not professional at all for such a large lead bank”.
It remains unclear what caused the lengthy disruptions.
