Comedian Charlie Murphy, brother of Eddie Murphy, dies at 57 after leukaemia battle

Comedian Charlie Murphy has died following a battle with leukaemia at the age of 57, a representative has confirmed.

The stand-up comedian and older brother of fellow comedian Eddie Murphy rose to fame with his appearances on Chappelle’s Show between 2003 and 2004.

Over his career he also collaborated with his brother, co-writing some of the films he starred in, including Norbit and Vampire in Brooklyn.

Charlie Murphy himself appeared in a number of notable hit films, including Night at the Museum.

He also loaned his voice to animated TV series The Boondocks and popular video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

In 2009, Murphy lost his wife, Trisha Taylor Murphy, to cervical cancer.

Stars have flocked to pay tribute to the comedian.
