It’s not a movie set – it’s a military exercise in the Northern Territory starring Australian and US special forces.

Special forces operators from both countries carried out a mock assault on an “enemy stronghold” as part of ongoing drills between the two countries.

As part of the nighttime operation, Black Hawk helicopters inserted 150 troops into the fictional town of Monmir – which in this case was situated on a local golf course.

The elite troops staged the assault, complete with explosions and nighttime flashes, as part of joint-operations going on in the Top End.

And while they train for success, Australia’s special forces operators also train for the worst case – including a possible Black Hawk crash, as they did this week.

The exercise included a rescue team deployed to extricate the injured crew and then exfiltration out.
