Collectables ban after schoolyard scuffles

The Coles Little Shop collectables have become a genuine phenomenon - but one school in Victoria has encountered a dark side.

The principal at Pascoe Vale North Primary in Melbourne is taking a stand and ordering students to leave their minis at home because they're causing conflict in the playground.

Reports of fighting and theft of the minis have emerged, and parents that spoke to A Current Affair were supportive of the principal's decision.

"I wouldn't like someone coming up to my daughter fighting over a mini and I guess there's parents out there who feel the same way with their children," one mum said.

Victorian Minister for Education James Merlino said while the collectables and the trading was "a bit of fun" for kids, teachers needed to respond if they led to conflict.

The collectables, available at checkout for every $30 spent, have been a marketing miracle for Coles.

The promotion was meant to end today, but due to its popularity, it has been extended into next month.

On eBay, A Current Affair found almost 18,000 listings for the tiny collectables, with prices ranging all the way up to an incredible $120,000.
