Temperatures set to tumble this weekend as cold front moves through

Winter is back with a vengeance this weekend, with a series of cold fronts bringing significant drops in temperatures across the country.

If the temperature in Sydney drops below 5.4 degrees on Sunday, it will be the coldest winter morning in two years.

The front will move south from Sunday around the Adelaide region before moving eastwards across Sydney late that evening and Monday morning, Weatherzone meteorologist Tom Hough told 9news.com.au.

“If the temperature drops below 5.4 degrees in Sydney it will be the coldest since August 5, 2015,” Mr Hough said.

Those in Orange in the state’s Central West will certainly feel the bite, with the mercury set to sink to -6 degrees, and -7 degrees in Canberra.

Thanks to the wind chill factor it could make it feel up to two degrees colder.

But there is good news for the ski fields too, with 5cm to 10 cm expected at the main resorts and most of the fresh snowfall hitting Mount Buller in eastern Victoria.

The front will be followed by a high pressure system on Sunday morning.

In the run up to the bitter weekend however, Sydney will actually warm up with the city expected to reach 20 degrees tomorrow.

There will be reprieve on Tuesday, with morning temperatures expected to climb back up to averages of 10 or 11 degrees, and no rain on the horizon.
