Coke can delivery inspires govt aid plan

The Pacific region's love of Coca-Cola has inspired the federal government to use private sector distribution networks to deliver medical aid.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says one of the major problems for the region is getting essential medicines to remote villages, which sometimes go for weeks without fundamental supplies.

"But it was observed that Coca-Cola is available everywhere throughout the Pacific. Any remote village, any hill top, Coca-Cola is there," Ms Bishop said on Saturday.

"So we've decided to partner with the private sector to use their distribution networks, their supply chains, to get essential medicines to where they are needed."
