Global news network CNN has released a video of more than three decades worth of bloopers to celebrate its 35th anniversary.

The four and a half minute compilation features some of the many blunders that have gone to air since billionaire Ted Turner founded the Cable News Network in 1980.

One of the most memorable stuff-ups was when popular host Anderson Cooper lost it over a story involving celebrated French actor and public urinator Gerard Depardieu.

The silver-haired presenter was discussing a 2011 story about the actor relieving himself in the aisle of an Air France flight from Paris to Dublin after he was told he would not be allowed to leave his seat to go to the bathroom.

But when you gotta go, you gotta go, leading Cooper to remark "They should thank their lucky stars it wasn't Depart-two".

A smirk immediately swept across Cooper's face as he struggled to contain his laughter. He apologised for his giggling but was unable to regain his composure, bursting into raucous laughter as tears welled in his eyes.

Other bloopers included people walking in front of live shots, stage props falling, actors looking at the wrong camera and reporters being caught out when they thought they were off-air.
