Two drownings hours apart on New Year's Day

A man has drowned at Clovelly Beach in Sydney mere hours after a man died swimming off Stradbroke Island in Queensland

Emergency services were called about 2pm to Clovelly after a 38-year-old man was pulled from the water unconscious.

A doctor was at the scene but the man was unable to be revived.

Police are investigating. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The Sydney death comes after a man was pulled from the waters at Frenchman's Beach on North Stradbroke Island.

Emergency services were called about 12.30pm, but could not revive the man.
