Climate change protesters forcibly removed from Parliament House

More than 100 climate change protesters have been removed from Parliament House after staging a sit in.

The group formed a circle and sat in the public entrance’s marble foyer around midday, carrying placards and signs urging the government to put “people before pollution”.

Greens leader Richard Di Natale was among the group.

The peaceful protest was ended by security within an hour, when guards began escorting protesters from the building.

The public entrance has been temporarily closed.

Some protesters were forcibly dragged out after they refused to leave.

Website The People’s Parliament said the protest was to let the government “know the world is watching” and urged people to pledge their support.

Speaking at the protest, Mr Di Natale urged the government to listen to the protesters.

“We need to ensure that we have a future for our children, where we no longer burn coal, where we turn to the sun and the wind to power this economy,” he said.
