A cleaner has been hospitalised with serious head injuries after a brutal gang bashing in Perth.

Witnesses say a group of people attacked the man on shift at Manning Bowls Club and chased him for more than 200 metres before bashing him.

The 33-year-old has worked at the club for more than three years.

Police shut down Challenger Avenue and Griffin Crescent today as they tried to work out what happened, but the attackers are still at large.

A bolwing club spokesperson said the cleaner had reversed his car up to the entrance and was working inside the building when he saw a group of people ransacking his car.

Residents say they heard screaming on the street.

It is understood the gang left the injured victim on the street before raiding several rooms inside the club.

Anybody with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
