Cigarette smuggler slapped with huge fine

A northern NSW man has paid a high price for smuggling cheap cigarettes into Australia.

The 38-year-old was sprung returning from Bali earlier this year with 19,200 cigarette sticks and 400 grams of tobacco crammed in two suitcases.

The Banora Point man was slapped with a $55,000 fine after being charged with several smuggling offences.
