Christopher Pyne and Anthony Albanese have gone head to head over the Bronwyn Bishop controversy, with Mr Albanese saying the saga was like a "bad movie".

"It's 'Four Weddings and a Political Funeral'," he said.

Education Minister Mr Pyne and Labor transport spokesman Mr Albanese were asked about the issue in their regular segment on the TODAY Show this morning.

"Bronwyn has apologised to the Australian public and she is doing a great job as Speaker," Mr Pyne said.

He accused the Labor party of trying to distract from Australia's "big issues" such as jobs and national security.

"She's a great Speaker," Mr Pyne said.

However, Mr Albanese quite obviously took a different view.

"I don't mind Bronwyn, she's a political warrior for her team and I respect that," he said.

"But that does not make her a good Speaker.

"It's in the government's interest for her to move on. It's over, Christopher, it's over."
