Chris O'Keefe reveals decision to quit media

2GB radio presenter Chris O'Keefe has revealed he is stepping back from the airwaves and will also quit journalism.

The multi-award winning O'Keefe, who has spent more than 13 years at Nine - with much of that as state and federal political reporter for 9News - told his listeners the decision to quit 2GB was one he had been wrestling with for months but he has decided to embark on a new venture.

"This is entirely my decision, I have decided to finish up not only in radio but in the media," O'Keefe, who took over the reins on the afternoon Drive show in January 2023, said.

"Today is my last show, and my last day in journalism. It's been a difficult decision, and one I have been wrestling with for many, many months.

"As much as I have enjoyed my time here at 2GB and my 13 years at Nine, the time is right for me to make the call to move on.

"I'm a young father, and I am looking at what the next 10 years looks like for me and my family. And as we all do from time to time, I have had to answer this question," added O'Keefe, who is married to Fox League broadcaster Yvonne Sampson and dad to their baby boy Henry.

O'Keefe says he will now open up a political and media advocacy business, "to help clients navigate their projects or issues through the maelstrom of government and public opinion".

O'Keefe's departure comes just hours after legendary broadcaster Ray Hadley bid an emotional farewell to the airwaves after 43 years, hosting his final show.
