Chris Dawson murder trial ends as judge considers verdict

Chris Dawson's marathon murder trial is over, with his fate now in the hands of Supreme Court Justice Ian Harrison.

The accused wife killer remains on bail and will return home to Queensland until the verdict is handed down.

Harrison will soon deliver a verdict on whether Dawson is innocent or guilty of killing wife Lynette in 1982.

It was a marathon trial which lasted more than two months.

The only time the former teacher ever spoke was to 9News on the day before it started.

"I just want the truth to come out," he said.

The truth, according to the Crown, is that Dawson murdered Lynette and disposed of her body, which has never been found.

With no physical proof, the prosecution case was made up of a mosaic of circumstantial evidence.

There were allegations of domestic violence, bruises seen on the mother-of-two, claims of hiring a hitman and Dawson's alleged desire to have an "unfettered relationship" with the family's teenaged babysitter, JC.

But the defence argued the former teacher was framed by his teenage lover turned second wife in the heat of a bitter custody battle.

The finger was also pointed at prejudiced police and journalist Hedley Thomas, accused of contaminating witnesses through The Teacher's Pet podcast.

Harrison said he hopes to deliver the verdict "relatively quickly".

Dawson remains on bail.
