Woman, 101, claims she saw Lyn Dawson a year after she disappeared, at Royal visit

A 101-year-old woman has told a Sydney court she saw Lynette Dawson more than a year after she disappeared from her Bayview home.

Elva McBay gave evidence today at the committal hearing for Chris Dawson, who is charged with murdering his wife 37 years ago.

Mrs McBay said she was waiting to greet Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1983 when she saw a woman come from the direction of Sydney Hospital and duck under the barricade to cross the road.

"I saw her face for a few seconds and then she ran straight in front of the police motorbikes, terribly dangerous," she said.

"I turned to my husband and I said 'I think that is Lyn Dawson.'"

Mrs McBay agreed she was a "lifelong bluebags mad keen supporter" referring to the Newton Jets, and became close to both players Chris and Paul Dawson.

She said she attended a birthday party at Chris and Lynette's Bayview home before she went missing.

"She was crying, she was trembling and I had never seen her in such a state ever," she said.

She remembered Lynette speaking about a row with the teenage babysitter who had moved in.

"She said she wanted to get rid of me," Mrs McBay recalled hearing.

The hearing continues tomorrow.
