Chris Brown claims he could 'raise awareness about domestic violence' if allowed entry to Australia

Singer Chris Brown has used twitter to state a case for his entry into Australia, saying he would “raise awareness about domestic violence”.

Brown was issued a notice by the Australian government informing him of its intention to ban him from entering the country on character grounds, because of his 2009 assault on his then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown pleaded guilty to bashing Rihanna and threatening to kill her, taking a plea deal that involved community service, counselling and five and a half years’ probation, which he completed in March.

The singer has since visited Australia in 2011 and 2012 without visa issues before being told he would not be granted entry a few days ago.

Brown tweeted on the issue saying he “would be more than grateful to come to Australia to raise awareness about domestic violence."

The Australian government has given Brown 28 days in which to give reason for his entry.

Brown will also need permission to enter New Zealand for a concert in December with the singer telling New Zealand he didn’t know how long someone should be punished.

“I’m not sure how long one person should be punished for their sins when they’ve taken the necessary steps to redeem themselves,” he said.

He has previously been denied entry to the UK and Canada.
