Child in serious condition after being hit and dragged by car in Sydney's west

A four-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after he was hit and dragged by a car in Sydney's west this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Blacktown Olympic Avenue at Rooty Hill just before 3pm after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.

Paramedics treated the four-year-old at the scene, before he was taken to Westmead Children's Hospital in a serious condition.

9News understands the incident happened in front of the boy's family, friends and concerned onlookers.

The driver of the car is believed to have stopped after the collision.

The 53-year-old driver was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
