A toddler has fallen from a balcony on the top floor of an apartment building in Sydney's west.

Paramedics were called to the apartment building in Mount Druitt about 10am after the little boy had reportedly fallen from the top floor balcony.

"This young boy has fallen quite a distance, about 10 to 12 metres from the balcony of a top floor apartment," NSW Ambulance acting inspector Mark Thomas said.

"He landed in bushes below, which may have broken his fall and prevented more serious injuries."

Paramedics and the CareFlight helicopter medical team assessed the little boy at the scene before he was driven to the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
