Child being taken to drag race: Vic police
A two-year-old child has been found in the back of a car on its way to illegal Melbourne drag races.
A Holden sedan revved its engine a number of times while passing a patrol car on Wednesday night.
When police pulled the car over at 9.45pm (AEDT) they found a two-year-old in the back seat, as well as a 23-year-old woman who wasn't wearing a seat belt.
The 22-year-old male driver said they were going to a Tullamarine industrial estate to watch illegal drag races.
Senior Constable Dan Carbonneau from the Fawkner Highway Patrol was shocked by the incident.
"Illegal drag or street racing is an incredibly dangerous and risky activity," Senior Constable Carbonneau said.
"I am at a loss as to why anyone would attend and put their own life at risk, let alone that of a child."
The driver and the passenger were fined more than $500 for seatbelt offences.
