You've got the wrong guy: dead cat's owner

The owner of a cat that was slaughtered and had its blood used to leave a menacing note at a Gold Coast home believes police have charged the wrong person.

Maddy White's pet cat "Moo" was killed and its blood used to scrawl the words "Whers my money? Tik tok (sic)" on the garage door of an Arundel home last week.

Jeremy Christie, 19, was remanded in custody when he faced the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday, charged with attacking the animal.

He's also been charged with arson and wilful damage after allegedly torching a car that was parked in the driveway of the house.

But Ms White, who is a friend of the accused, doesn't believe he's responsible for killing Moo.

"I'm just a bit shocked right now. Jeremy Christie is a good friend and I can't see him doing this to a poor animal. I don't believe he's capable of something like that," she told reporters outside the court.

She said she'd had Moo for about six months and had no idea he was missing until the police came to her house.

She said the person who attacked Moo needed help.

Christie was remanded in custody. He's expected to seek bail when the case returns to court on July 1.
