Charges laid after WA Wheatbelt bushfire

A 22-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly sparked a bushfire in Western Australia's Wheatbelt region.

Firefighters were called to a large, intense bushfire in deep swamp land between Constable Street and Ingleby Court in Gingin at about 9pm (WST) on Monday, prompting both streets to be evacuated.

The fire was brought under control within two hours.

On Wednesday, police said a man from the Perth suburb of Koongamia had been charged with breach of duty, which means he allegedly failed to reasonably ensure that an ignition source did not cause a fire that could not be controlled.

He is scheduled to appear in the Moora Magistrates Court on February 5.

Separately, a bushfire advice remains in place for the eastern part of Aveley in the City of Swan, where a blaze was reported about 4.30pm (WST) on Tuesday.

There has been a string of suspicious bushfires in the area in recent days, including one at Ellenbrook where flames came within metres of dozens of homes.
