Chaos in Queensland as crossbenchers courted by both parties

Queensland Labor leader Annastacia Palaszczuk said she would never do a deal to become Premier, but the chance of taking over from Campbell Newman has brought her to the bargaining table.

She has been talking to the north Queensland members of Katter’s Australia Party and Independent Peter Wellington.

“We want a government that’s going to be stable in Queensland,” Mr Wellington said.

The LNP meanwhile is on the hop trying to find a new leader, with Mr Wellington meeting with Lawrence Springborg.

Fiona Simpson also wants the top job, while others are urging Scott Emerson.

There are no guarantees Mr Wellington and the KAP will agree on the same party, and with so many seats still undecided, a quick resolution is only possible if Mr Newman concedes.
