Changes to crack down on dodgy vocational education and training providers have passed federal parliament.

Under the legislation anyone marketing a course has to clearly show which registered training organisation is providing the qualification.

Assistant Minister for Education and Training Simon Birmingham said the changes will enable the regulator to take action against any provider which fails to offer clear information to prospective students.

"Passing this (the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Amendment) Bill sends a clear signal that the Australian government will take strong action against those who seek to take advantage of vulnerable students and taxpayers," Senator Birmingham said in a statement.
