Changes proposed to running of elections

PROPOSED CHANGES TO FEDERAL ELECTIONS

* Fresh look at the Senate vote-counting process.

* Parties need 1000 members to be registered and are not exempt merely if they have an existing MP.

* Enrolment should be available online.

* State and federal electoral rolls should be harmonised.

* Not numbering all boxes, in House of Representatives voting, should be allowed.

* Review the $20 penalty for not voting.

* Voters must show ID at the polling booth.

* Express lanes at polling stations for disabled, pregnant and elderly voters.

* Improved postal voting system for defence force personnel.

* Electronic voting for blind- and low-vision voters.

* Permanent task force to prevent and combat cyber manipulation in elections.

* Greater clarity around social media services and whether they are 'platforms' or 'publishers'.
