Change PM? Don't be ridiculous: Morrison

Where would a new parliamentary year be without a blue between Scott Morrison and his 'mate' Ray Hadley.

With the first Newspoll of the year showing the coalition trailing Labor by eight points, the treasurer's regular interview with the 2GB radio shock-jock got heated after Hadley suggested the only way forward for the government was for Malcolm Turnbull to resign as prime minister.

"That's the only hope you have got," Hadley said.

Mr Morrison dismissed that notion as a "banal" view, saying voters wanted the government to focus on them, not the "hoopla' of political personalities.

"I think that's a fairly ridiculous reaction," he told Hadley.

"What Australians want us to do is not go into some revolving door of leadership."

Hadley pointed out Mr Turnbull was happy to get rid of his predecessor Tony Abbott on the basis of poor polling.

"You can't call it any other way," he back fired at the treasurer.

"It's no good bagging the media or bagging me about banal comments, it's stating the bleeding obvious."
