Woman and dog pulled from burning home after arson attack

A woman and dog have made a lucky escape from their burning home in Melbourne after the front door was engulfed in flames in an arson attack.

Authorities were called overnight to the property on Coolac St in Chadstone after a suspected arsonist set fire to the home.

The woman and her dog were pulled from the home's front window.

She was treated at the scene for minor injuries and did not require hospitalisation.

It took authorities about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control. Emergency crews said the fire was spreading through the home's roof when they arrived. 

The home sustained extensive damage to the main bedroom and living area. Damages are estimated at $80,000. 

A full investigation is now underway into who may have set the fire.
