AFL star Chad Wingard's relief after allegedly abducted foster brother found

The family of AFL star Chad Wingard has expressed relief following the discovery of his foster brother, who was allegedly abducted and taken to New South Wales.

Less than 24 hours after Wingard made a tearful social media plea for the missing boy, police swooped on a Broken Hill service station this afternoon.

There they found a six-year-old and three-year-old boy, allegedly ending the biological mother and father’s plan to flee with their children.

The youngest of the boys is the foster brother of Wingard.

Inspector Yvette Smith from NSW Police today revealed a witness lead officers to the discovery.

“They called us because they’d actually seen a post on the South Australian Police Facebook page," she said.

The alarm was raised after the boys went missing from Wingard's hometown of Murray Bridge at 4pm yesterday, when they were allegedly abducted by their parents.

Police believe they were headed interstate in a black Nissan Skyline.

Late today, Wingard's mother was elated at the news her foster child was found, posting on Facebook: "Words can't describe how we feel right now."

SA Police said they're now working with their New South Wales counterparts to have a 22-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man extradited back to South Australia.

The drama unfolded just hours after Wingard, 25, was traded from Port Adelaide to Hawthorn.

He played 147 games for the Power after being taken with pick six in the 2011 national draft.

Murray Bridge is about 75km south-east of Adelaide.
