Streets blocked as second day of CFMEU protests erupt in Brisbane

CFMEU members are taking to the streets of Brisbane for a second day as fallout from the High Court's endorsement of the union's forced administration continues.

Campbell Street in Bowen Hills has already been brought to a standstill amid a sea of hi-vis workwear, just 24 hours after a major snap strike action.

Today's walk-off was a planned one. The union is demanding that its ousted leaders be reinstated.

The government-appointed administrator has warned members the strike action could be unlawful and urged workers to get back on the job.

However, union representatives are now demanding a meeting with the administrator and with the federal government.

The federal government intervened in August 2024, following claims of bikie and organised crime figures infiltrating the scandal-riddled union, in addition to other serious criminal activity.

Former CFMEU officials challenged the government's legislation that removed the union's leadership and placed it under the control of administrator Mark Irving KC.

The full bench of the High Court this week found all four arguments were unfounded.

Organisers are warning the protests could continue.
