CCTV released of man wanted over brutal CBD stabbing

New CCTV has been released of the man believed responsible for violently stabbing two people in Melbourne’s CBD this week.

Video released by police shows the offender in a grey hoodie outside a 7-Eleven convenience store at the intersection of Flinders and Elizabeth Streets about 4am on Monday.

He can be seen interacting with a number of other people at the scene, before fleeing.

Moments earlier, the man stabbed a 33-year-old man and 37-year-old following an argument over a mobile phone, police said.

The Reservoir man was taken to The Royal Melbourne Hospital with critical injuries, but his condition has since improved to serious.

The woman, also from Reservoir, is now in a stable condition in The Alfred Hospital following surgery for her injuries.

Four people were earlier arrested by investigators, but have since been released and are being treated as witnesses.

Detectives continue to search for the offender, who is described as being Caucasian and 178 centimetres tall with a medium build.

He was carrying a backpack and duffel bag at the time of the attack.
