CCTV captures moment man is brutally bashed over $5

Detectives have labelled a violent attack of a man who was bashed and robbed in Melbourne’s south-east as “sickening”.

CCTV has captured the moment a 51-year-old man was walking at a main intersection in Dandenong last Friday night, when he was approached by another man, who demanded he hand over $5.

The victim refused and the offender launched into a vicious attack – stomping on his head and kicking him before walking away.

Police said the incident has left them “sickened”.

“Sickening to be kicked and going along your own way, minding your own business,” Detective Sergeant Dean Hayes told 9NEWS.

“Absolutely unproved…that you can’t walk down the street on a Friday night and go get some food and be attack by a group of males, it’s terrible.”

The victim was left suffering cuts to his mouth and bleeding from his head, but somehow managed to walk to the nearest police station where he was taken to hospital for treatment.

Detectives are now searching for the offender, who was last seen walking along Lonsdale Street in Dandenong.
