The 23-year-old was a member of the Australian Women's Rafting Team and had been representing the country in the World Championships in Argentina last month.

The team posted tributes to the "inspiring young woman", saying the "river gave her life meaning".

"As a team and individuals we are struggling to come to terms with her tragic loss and have been forever changed by her invaluable contribution to this team and our sport, " a post on the Australian Women's Rafting Team said.

"Float on sister."

The International Rafting Federation described Ms Emary as an "avid adventurer" who was "not one to let boundaries or challenges get in her way".

"At only 23, her energy and voracity for life showed in all aspects of her life.

"She brought smiles to everyone she met. Sat back right, she commanded the view and was an integral part of the team."

Her death marks the third Australian casualty in Nepal last month.
