Cash to be sent to ISIL 'found in youth's shorts by mum'

A plan by a Sydney youth to send more than $12,000 to Islamic State came undone when his mother found the cash in his shorts while doing his laundry, a court has heard.

The male, who cannot be identified, is testifying against two men accused of giving him the money, Omarjan Azari and Ali Al-Talebi, The Guardian reports.

Azari and Al-Talebi are accused of sending more than $15,000 to ISIL in August and September last year.

The youth is said to have met the men at a Parramatta mosque, who then asked him to send cash via Western Union outlets.

It is alleged the youth sent two transfers of $3000 in August last year, but hesitated when asked to send US$9000 ($12,491).

He took the cash home, where it was found by his mother in his shorts while sorting laundry.

The youth has been granted immunity in exchange for testifying against the men and has given evidence in court remotely after receiving death threats.

Azari, who is from the western Sydney suburb of Guildford, has denied the charges.

The hearing resumes on Wednesday.
