Car windows smashed in overnight rampage in Melbourne

Up to 20 cars have been damaged in Melbourne’s south-east during a roadside crime spree overnight, leaving glass strewn across the streets.

The vandalised cars were parked in Thannet Street, Wattletree Road and McKinley Avenue in Malvern and Beech Street, Chauser Street and Manning Road in Malvern East overnight.

"I looked up and saw at least three or four guys in a four-wheel drive just out the front of our house," resident Liz Hoffman told 9NEWS.

Investigators seized a knife from one of the crime scenes and have taken two clear fingerprints from one of the cars.

State shadow treasurer Michael O’Brien was among those whose car was damaged in the rampage.

Mr O’Brien wrote on Twitter he believed up to 30 cars had been targeted.

No arrests have yet been made.
