Car link to Melbourne murder

The murder of an 18-year-old man whose body was dumped outside a Melbourne hospital has been linked to a burnt-out car found 20km away on the same morning.

The body of Hieu Nguyen, of St Albans, was dumped on the nature strip outside Sunshine Hospital in St Albans about 5.30am on May 11 last year.

Police have released pictures to try to identify the driver of a torched light blue Honda Civic found on a rural property in the north-west suburb of Plumpton. They believe the driver was involved in transporting Mr Nguyen to the hospital.

A witness told police they saw a man with dark hair driving a vehicle of that description erratically on the Keilor Melton Highway, near the Kings Road intersection in Taylors Lakes, about 8am that day.

Homicide Squad Detective Inspector John Potter appealed to anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area on the day, particularly around Majorca Street in St Albans, about 5.30am to call police.

"It's important for us and for Mr Nguyen's family, to find out what happened to him that day," Det Insp Potter said.
