Carjacker forces teen driver to take him interstate in terrifying ordeal

A teenage driver was forced to drive across a state border by a man who climbed through the window of his car in a terrifying daytime carjacking.

The 40-year-old man allegedly climbed through the window of the Ford Falcon while it stopped at traffic lights in Tweed Heads South and punched the 18-year-old driver in the mouth before demanding he drive him to Sydney.

But the man ended up giving the driver directions to Coolangatta, Queensland.

They drove past two Queensland police officers and the driver escaped to alert them.

The 40-year-old man was arrested and extradited to NSW where he was charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a car-jacking and aggravated kidnapping.

He was denied bail to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on Friday.
