Car inferno filmed on Melbourne freeway

A car has been filmed engulfed in a raging blaze on a busy Melbourne freeway.

The burning car was spotted in the emergency lane of the Peninsula Link, near the Frankston-Dandenong Road turnoff, around 8:46pm yesterday.

The incident happened on an overpass on the city-bound side of the freeway.

Emergency services were called to the scene with firefighters battling to bring the inferno under control and police controlling passing traffic.

A video captured by a passer-by shows the car burning on the side of the road, sending a plume of smoke into the air.

No injuries have been reported and police said the fire has not been deemed suspicious.
