Bikie attack suspected after family's two cars go up in flames

An Adelaide family found themselves trapped inside their home as their two cars went up in flames outside overnight.

Thanks to the quick actions of neighbours and firefighters the family was unhurt – but it was a close thing.

"If they didn't get here so quick, that could have went up and I would have still been asleep – anything could have happened," Andrew Warner told 9News.

Mr Warner, his partner and their four kids were asleep inside their Bedchester Road home in Elizabeth North when explosions woke them and their neighbours about 3am.

The Warners' Mercedes and the Mitsubishi went up in flames – one on the footpath and the other in the carport.

Firefighters were able to stop the blaze within minutes, but one car was left a charred shell and the other is now worthless despite suffering only minor damage.

Mr Warner said his family was lucky to make it out alive, but he didn't know why they were targeted.

"We are pretty shook up," he said.

He said money had already been tight after he lost his job during the COVID-19 pandemic, and with no insurance, he had no idea how they would replace the cars.

"It's pretty hard when I've got no bloody car and no money to buy it either," he said.

Police claim the fires were the work of an arsonist, and are investigating whether the attack was the work of bikies.
